GoL, EBID Signs 100M Loan Agreement for Coastal Highway Project

Monrovia, Liberia - The Government of Liberia and the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development had sign loan agreement in the tone of 100M United State Dollar for the construction of coastal Highway road project.

Signing on behalf of the Government of Liberia, Minister of Public Work, Hon. Mobutu Nyepan, has disclosed that phase one of the Coastal Highway Project will begin next year.

Speaking Friday, Dec 7, 2018, at the Boulevard Palace, 13th street Sinkor in Monrovia, Minister Nyepan emphasized that today signing follow a technical discussion between the Government of Liberia and the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID).

He noted that phase one of the project will begin from Barclay Ville through Sass Town, Grand Kru County and up to Sinoe County. According to him, phase one of the project will commence the first half of 2019 and will end 2021, targeting 96.6 kilometers of the road.

He reaffirmed Government commitment toward road development and reiterated that the first priority of this Government is infrastructural development and the key is road construction. ‘’ As I speak to you the road between Gbarnga, Bong County to Voinjama, Lofa County is ongoing, while the road from Coca-Cola factory to ELWA Junction is in progress along with other communities road projects’’ he added

Minister Nyepan thanked ECOWA Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) for responding to the request made by President George Weah that will enable the Government to undertake this worthwhile project.

For his part, the Consultant for ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) Hon. Doe Weah Wallace who signed on behalf of the Bank lauded the Government of Liberia for the level of working relationship and said the loan agreement is the Bank way of helping the government in its overall development agenda toward road connectivity.
The Treasury Boss who witness the occasion, Hon Samuel D. Tweah Jr. also applauded the Bank for their continuous effort and commitment toward the pro-poor development agenda of President George M. Weah and said the President aspiration of road agenda is key to growth and development.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Finance Minister, Samuel Tweah, Minister of States, Nathaniel McGee, Information Minister, Eugene Nagbe and the Administrative Officer at LRA, Aaron Kollie, among others.
